Genesis – 12. Abrham and Abimelech, Isaac and Hagar

Scripture reference: Genesis 20 and 21

There are three elements in these two chapters – Abraham’s trouble in Gerar, the birth of Isaac, and the oath sworn at Beersheba. In these we see the faithfulness of God to Abraham and Sarah, but also to the covenant that concerns the whole world being blessed though the descendants of Abraham – or more particularly, through Christ Jesus.
