The Weekend Away – 2024

Our purpose this weekend was to get to know each other a little better and to look into some important life issues. These issues we described as below:

What is happening at home?

Throughout history homes have undergone great changes. But in recent times, there has been a revolution in how society views family, the role of parents and mothers especially, and new technologies have had a huge impact. Many people now view their home only as a place to sleep and occasionally eat—before returning to their “real lives” outside. These days, you can also be physically at home while your mind is far away in some online space. But our homes and the people who live in them with us are gifts from God and entrusted into our stewardship. One day, God will require a reckoning for how we’ve used these gifts to serve His kingdom.

What would it take for our home life to become the strength of the church and a clearer witness to the world of God’s wisdom and love?

“It’s the men who are letting everyone down.”

Men have a God given duty to take responsibility for the spiritual life of their family and to lead by example in godly living.  Boys particularly need that example and mentoring to grow to maturity.  But in our society many boys have not had it, and even among Christians many men fail to take up their responsibilities in their homes and in the church.

What is missing?  What can we do about it?

We discussed these issues, after a short talk introducing the topic, as males and as females, and then we came together as a whole group and shared our conclusions and ideas for the way forward,
